Couple of Announcements

There are couple of announcements from naan studio, Inc.

1. We just started!

We are very happy to announce that naan studio, Inc. just started! We are focused on both TwitterFox and TwitterFon.

2. Closed repository

Before we started naan studio, Inc., Both TwitterFox and TwitterFon are Kazuho Okui's personal open source project and he hosted a repository on his site. However, we decided to close them. Please note that version 1.4.5 and later of TwitterFon, and version 1.8 and later of TwitterFox are no longer licensed under any terms.

3. Release TwitterFon Pro

We are going to release first our "paid" product, which is TwitterFon Pro. This is an ideal twitter client for advanced twitter users. These are some screen shots and major differences between free and paid version.
  • Multi account support
  • 4 different theme
  • Shake to reload
  • Landscape keyboard
  • bit.ly
  • Instapaper
  • RichText tweet view
  • Push notification (After iPhone OS 3.0)

The rule of free vs. pro is simple. We keep both simple as much as possible, but pro version has more features as requested.

We will continue to maintain free version of TwitterFon without any limitation, means you can use basic functions as you already have on version TwitterFon 1.4.x and we will add several advanced features such as Rich Text tweet view to free version.

4. Private beta test

Finally, we are inviting several people for beta test program of new version of TwitterFon. Please visit this form and fill it. We're opening this form at 24 hours, then determines beta tester by lot . We will start the beta test from this weekend.

Update 5/2 2:00PM

We closed the form. Thank you for filling the form.

Update 5/2 6:00PM

We sent first beta version to beta testers. If you didn't receive an e-mail from naanstudio.com, you are out of the lottery. We will have another round of beta program in future.

I don't use bit.ly; I don't want multiple accounts; I don't want landscape 'cause I use it lying down. I have 1.4.6 right now. Does this mean I have to revert to 1.4.4?

From the article... "We will continue to maintain free version of TwitterFon without any limitation"

Having "sublists" or subcategories of the list of people one is following would be a great feature.

That form is essentially impossible to fill out on an iPhone... Google Spreadsheets dont appear to be mobile friendly...

Great news. I hope that the "View users timeline" feature will be in each profile page, not only in a "reply" page.

How much will Pro version be?

Can the "Landscape keyboard" mode have a turn-off mode (toggle), cause sometimes I use my iPod Touch lying down, like Scott said, and it gives problem cause you will then have the app facing side-way.

how much will the paid twitterfon cost?

Does this version add proper support for international domains and unicode links?

"note that version 1.4.5 and later of TwitterFon, and version 1.7.7 and later of TwitterFox are no longer licensed under any terms."

You cant revoke the GPL retroactively for software already distributed. You can licence all newer versions of the software under a different licence but that does not stop anyone who has a copy of the old code from forking it and making their own project from it.

> Scott,

As Dave said, we will continue to develop free version. You don't need to revert to 1.4.4. In fact, free version 1.5 is way better than 1.4.x.

> OBT,

Implement group function is easy, but making ease to use UI for editing and managing group on small iPhone screen is not easy. I'll try it later, but not now.

> Nick,

Please send a feedback to Google :)

> Lukáš,

"### updates" cell on profile view opens user timeline.

> Jesi,

I totally agreed. You can turn off landscape keyboard.

> joe,

Not decided yet. That's why I ask you guys with the form :)

> Rezand

It does.

> Joel,

I know and you are right. I didn't write revoke old license and I won't stop someone make forked version of them if they follow the original license.

I'm glad to hear a Pro version is coming. I missed out on the beta, but I'll be buying the day it shows up. Thanks.

It s a really sad news that you close the repository.
TwitterFon was a great source to lean objective C for me (and many other i think).
I don t see any reason to close the source, instead of choosing a better licence to fit your needs.

Has everyone who signed up for the beta been notified?

I dont use instapaper mostly because I use read It later instead. Any possibility you could add support for read it later into the pro version.

Dorian K said...

I second the idea for Read it Later. tweetie supports instapaper, so if you could support RIL, I'd buy this app in a heart beat. Totally a missing feature that tweetie doesn't have.

I'm psyched to learn about the Pro version that is brewing.
Too bad you reached your amount of beta testers!
I'm so looking forward to the multiple account management in Twitterfon.

Will anyone be able to do anything about the long tweets? To this day I haven't figured out how to view the rest of a tweet if it's over 140 characters. It just shows ... And then I can't view the rest. Someone help!

Brad12887 said...

Can anyone get some support around here? I was going to buy the pro version but not getting any response from the developer is really leading me to not buy it because I can't get any help.
